A strand of silver hair on the shoulder, quickly brushed off, is of no consequence to the causal observer, but what if that single stray strand has a story to tell?
Sally, I love this introduction into Strands of Silver and its meaning. How true and wise that we cannot understand a segment of life without the whole. Your words invite me into your story and I want to read more. Your reference to the one silver strand of hair is such a poignant moment, one we can all visualize but not yet feel the weight of. Well done dear friend.
Sally, I found your writing at a time during the pandemic when life had become so overwhelming for me. I reached out to you after reading your story about FFA on a Facebook group. You DM’d me such a lovely personal response. Your words calmed me, yet also propelled me into action after a period of mourning my own new alopecia diagnosis. I’ve continued to follow you and your posts never fail me. You are a truly gifted writer and I’m so glad to have found you when I did. Many thanks!
Jonty, thank you for sharing how we met. I’m truly humbled that I was able to encourage you during a time when life was overwhelming for you. It encourages me to know how much we all need each other as we go through difficult times of overwhelm, stress, confusion, change and loss. Sometimes, we just need to know we are not alone. At times, I wonder if my words really matter. Knowing they matter to dear souls such as you means so much to me when I have my own moments of doubt about writing. Thank you again for reading, and for sharing your thoughts. Blessings.
You've done a beautiful job of telling your story and setting the stage for the meaning of your title and a foundation for your future writing. Well done!
Oh Sally, this is so powerful. You write so beautifully, so vividly, you reach into our hearts as you share the story of what yours has experienced and how you have experienced it. How you describe the visceral pain in your heart and all the ways your body has grieved and how you've experienced that. Your writing is a gift, truly, full of realness, hope, tenderness, love, care, comfort... I am SO glad you are sharing your beautiful words here, and pray that others who will draw such comfort from them will be guided to them. This is an extraordinary reflection. SO much love to you. ❤️
Jenni, thank you so much. Your words, and your support as like balm to my writer’s soul. I actually felt a lot of vulnerability hangover after I shared this; then doubt crept in. I do hope that my words bring comfort to others.
Thank you for your encouragement when it comes to all things Substack. I really do like writing here. So far this site is meeting all my expectations for having a place where more connection could be made between readers and writers. Sending SO much love right back to you, friend. ❤️
Sally, I have admired you since the first time you responded to an online post about my FFA. Thank you for being my guiding light in those early days of my diagnosis, and for continuing to shine your light into some of the deepest and darkest traumas we’ve all experienced. That light is healing! 💕
Kristen, thank you so much for your kind words. Goodness, it now seems so long ago that we first met on-line through the FFA support threads. Those threads (dare we say strands?) of support were so important during those early days of diagnosis. We felt less alone. We felt support. We learned more about our diagnosis. We learned about treatment options. Then we met in person at the conference. That was incredible and such a gift. Now, you lead the charge as president of the foundation! I’m blessed to know you, dear friend. Keep up the good fight. ❌⭕️
What can I say, Sally? your writing always comes from deep inside your heart, and because of that, it cannot fail to touch the hearts of your readers. You know that I am full of admiration for you .... for all that you are, and for how you are coping with all that life has thrown at you. You have certainly had more than your fair share of heartache. Hugs to you my friend.
